展覧会概要
人里離れた山間の奈良・水間（みま）町に住まいを兼ねたアトリエと窯を自らの手で造り、自然に溶け合うように暮らす陶芸家、辻󠄀村史朗（1947～奈良県生まれ）。型にとらわれず、とことん自己と向き合い、心赴くままに生みだされた作品は、エネルギーに満ち溢れ、国内外で高く評価されています。
洋画家を志して上京した10代後半、絵に没頭する日々の中で自己を追求したいという思いが募り、禅門を叩きます。修行の日々を過ごした辻󠄀村は、「人間の内なるものから発する何かと、ものを造ることから生じる何か、この二つの何かが自分の生きるうえでの指針となった」と振り返ります。
そして20代のはじめ、日本民藝館で名も無きひとつの大井戸茶碗に感動したことがきっかけで、師匠を持たず作陶の道に進み、今日まで精力的に土をいじり、日々思うがままの創作を続けています。
本展は、作陶を始めた初期から現在に至る作品を網羅する自選回顧展です。作陶の原点となっている茶わん、壺や花器を中心に、書や絵画など約150点により、多才な辻󠄀村史朗の世界をご紹介します。
Exhibition with Ceramist Shiro Tsujimura
Ceramist Shiro Tsujimura, born in 1947 in Nara Prefecture, built a studio with his own hands equipped with a kiln that doubles as his home in a remote mountain location in the Mimacho district of Nara, allowing him to blend in with the natural surroundings there. Created through much soul-searching with his heart guiding his hands, his unique and unconventional art radiates energy and has been received to high acclaim both in Japan and abroad.
After moving to Tokyo to be a Western-style painter in his late teens, his desire to reflect on his sense of self grew in the days he spent devoted to painting, and he started learning about Zen teachings. Looking back on those days, Tsujimura said: "Two things have served as guides in my life: that which radiates from deep inside people's minds, and that which arises from my creative activities."
Enamored with an obscure Oido tea bowl at the Japan Folk Crafts Museum in his early 20s, Tsujimura set out on the path to becoming a ceramist without studying under any master, and has since been at the potter’s wheel every day, energetically molding clay and letting his heart lead him where he wants to go.
This retrospective exhibition features works personally selected by Tsujimura, from his early years as a ceramist to today. Pots, vases, and tea bowls, the starting point of his ceramic journey, are among some of the 150 works featured at this exhibition, with a collection of calligraphy and paintings also on display, shaping the versatile world of Shiro Tsujimura.
